Learn How to Prepare for Disasters at Get Ready Expo

September is National Preparedness Month and to celebrate Puget Sound Energy, the City of Federal Way and the local American Red Cross are partnering to present the Get Ready Expo to help families become better prepared for disasters.

The Get Ready Expo is a free event providing seminars and advice by local disaster preparedness experts on family disaster planning, disaster kits, earthquake and tsunami safety, basic first aid, fire safety, natural gas and electricity safety tips and information, pet preparedness and neighborhood preparedness. There will be interactive projects for children and giveaways for the entire family.

Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Commons at Federal Way

1928 S Commons (I-5 Exit 143)

Federal Way, Wash.

As 2011’s earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes have demonstrated, disasters can strike anyone at any time. Locally, the American Red Cross responds to a disaster about every other day – most often house fires. National Preparedness Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of being prepared for emergencies. Families are encouraged to follow three steps: 1) Get a kit; 2) Make a plan; and 3) Be informed. Preparedness steps taken today can save lives tomorrow.
