Local Red Cross Supports Liberty USO

Liberty USO & Red Cross have always put the needs of our military community ahead of our individual brands.

The Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) is committed to helping both active duty military and veteran families. We provide material and volunteer support to numerous local veteran and military organizations. We maintain an information and referral database available 24/7 for local military and veteran families, as well as emergency communications services between deployed service members and their families during emergencies at home. We also offer free, supportive programming in mental health and resiliency. We even provide emergency bedding.

On March 3, due to a late season snowstorm, our local USO center found itself more crowded than usual. Located at Philadelphia Airport, Liberty USO occupies 5,000 square feet of the tarmac at Terminal A. The facility provides the comforts of home for travelling service personnel and their families, as well as outreach to military units in the Philadelphia area. It also provides overnight accommodations for active duty service members whose travel is delayed.

Because the USO supports the mobilization and demobilization of troops, several hundred individuals may pass through the center on any given day. When there is a delay due to weather, the USO works hard to make sure that service members are comfortable while they wait. During the March snowstorm, with the help of the Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania, it was able to provide all its service member guests with cots, blankets and comfort kits. In acknowledging the partnership President and COO of the USO of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey, Joseph Brooks, noted, "Liberty USO & Red Cross have always put the needs of our military community ahead of our individual brands."

The relationship between the Liberty USO and SEPA continues. On April 9, SEPA donated 100 cots and bedding. These supplies are intended for use by service members impacted by travel delays and by Families of the Fallen, who may pass through the USO on their way to Dover Air Force Base. In addition, Liberty will distribute some of the supplies throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey to support emergency operations, as well as deployments. According to Ryan Mcgoldrick, Red Cross SEPA SAF outreach specialist, “The American Red Cross is proud to support Liberty USO and all of our partners in insuring that all our military and veteran families are cared for and comforted.”

The American Red Cross offers 24/7 emergency communications, counseling, financial assistance, and other services to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and military families.
