Metronet to Hold American Red Cross Blood Drive

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held during Metronet’s Customer Appreciation/Red Cross Day on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Metronet is located at 287 North 15th Street, Vincennes. To make an appointment, contact Bonnie at 812-255-1155 or call the Red Cross office at 812-882-2204.

Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements. Please bring your Red Cross blood donor card or other form of positive ID when you come to donate. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

The goal for the drive is to collect 25 units.

The need for blood is constant. Every two seconds a patient in the United States needs a blood transfusion. Blood is perishable and has no substitute. Red blood cells have a shelf life of only 42 days and platelets just 5 days – they must be replenished constantly.
