More deployed from Eastern Mass in Sandy effort

The American Red Cross has spent the last two weeks preparing for, dealing with and responding to Hurricane Sandy, a devastating superstorm that has devastated the tri-state area.

Two-hundred and twenty volunteers helped out during Sandy and more than 312 newcomers have come forward to become volunteers themselves. We have already provided some with Disaster Services training, and will be holding several classes throughout the eastern region in coming weeks.

Meanwhile, 27 volunteers, including some staff members, have deployed to the impacted areas. In Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey, our volunteers are raising money, running shelters, distributing meals, working with local government and the media, offering health services and handing out relief items to affected neighborhoods.
