The sixth annual Services for Armed Forces Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign was an inspiring success in the Northeastern New York Region (ARCNENY). More than 10,000 cards were collected, signed and mailed by a large variety of civic groups, organizations, businesses and individuals between October 1 and December 7.
“It just takes a moment to sign a card to share your appreciation for the sacrifices members of the military community make,” said Dianna Rios, Services to Armed Forces Coordinator, ARCNENY.
The region had 13 Red Cross Chapter card signing events, four corporate events, 14 companies donated holiday cards and they were able to raise $636 for the Services to Armed Forces program.
Thanks to the thousands who participated by signing a card, and to the many organizations that hosted an event, including:
Circle K - Russell Sage College
Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York and the Adirondack Chapter of GSNENY
Garry “Gee” Murray, Chapter President - Alumni, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, UAlbany
Red Cross Club - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Special recognition goes to Talk 1300-WGDJ-AM’s Melody Burns and her listeners who signed and mailed more than 3500 cards.
Thank you to the many individual friends of the Red Cross who donated additional unsigned cards when our supplies ran low. Thanks also to the following businesses for their donations:
AccuStaff/Anton Wood Associates, Albany
Fairfield Inn, East Greenbush
New York Players Entertainment Group, Albany
Tri-City ValleyCats, Troy
If you or your organization participated in the campaign, but have not yet reported the number of cards signed and mailed, please contact Dianne Rios at 518-694-5160, or by email at email@example.com. Each card is important to the service member who receives it, so please let us know, so that we may add your contributions to our tally.
As you finish mailing your own holiday greeting cards, keep in mind that we accept donations of leftover cards for next year. Contact Dianne Rios for more information on donating.
