NBC TODAY Show Segment: Is Your Home Safe From Fire Hazards?

Home Fire Safety
Fire safety tips to keep your family and you safe.

Did you know that you may have only two minutes to safely escape a home fire? The American Red Cross teamed up new mom Kate Gonzalez and Red Cross Regional Disaster Officer and volunteer firefighter Steve Sarinelli to give TODAY show viewers important home fire safety tips. Watch the TODAY show clip online.

With the Home Fire Campaign, the Red Cross asks every household in America to take two simple steps that can save lives:

  • Install smoke alarms and check them on a monthly basis.
  • Practice fire drills with all family members at home.

  • Use our Home Fire Safety Checklist to reduce the risk of fire in your home.
  • Create a custom escape plan for your home with our Home Fire Escape Plan grid.
  • Pick a worksheet that fits your living situation to plan and practice home fire drills and help begin your escape plan: Single Family Home, Multi-Family Home, or High-Rise Apartment Complex.
  • Join the Home Fire Campaign as a volunteer by contacting your local Red Cross chapter.
