Red Cross “Run for the Red” 5K race raises nearly $10,000
More than 200 community members attended the event, helping to raise more than $8,000 for disaster relief.

The Market Alternatives Run for the Red, a benefit 5K for the American Red Cross, was held on Saturday, June 8 in front of the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Newark.

This eighth year of the fundraiser was the most successful to date. More than 200 community members attended the event, helping to raise more than $8,000 for disaster relief. This was also the inaugural year for our French toast breakfast, which was delightfully prepared and tasted great.

“This year marks a new record with 161 race participants,” said Jim Love, Executive Director of the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We’re proud to have so much support throughout the community.”

Many of the runners were part of local corporate teams; for example, Advanced Atomization Technologies located in Clyde, NY brought 30 participants to the race.

Larry DePauw, Market Alternatives Owner and President, presented the awards during the ceremony. The first male finisher was Mitchell Priebe from Phelps with a time of 17:29 and the first female finisher was Emma Spinosa from Cooperstown with a time of 23:11. The top male and female finishers from each age group also received awards. The results can be found at http://www.yellowjacketracing.com/2013.
