The Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross has selected Dale Roberts, of Lewis County, Jeremy Smith, of Watertown, and Angela Blair, of Norfolk, as its volunteers of the month for the first quarter of 2013.

Dale Roberts, the Volunteer of the Month for January, has been a volunteer with the Northern New York Chapter and a member of its Board of Directors since 2008. As a detective for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, Roberts witnesses the aid and comfort that Red Cross volunteers provide to people who are affected by disasters, and he said those experiences made him want to volunteer. This past fall, Roberts’ Lewis County ties were instrumental in another successful “Dunkin’ Donuts” collection box campaign in Lowville.

Jeremy Smith, the Volunteer of the Month for February, has been an office volunteer with the Northern New York Chapter for 1 ½ years, serving as an assistant to the program coordinator. An Allied Health major at Jefferson Community College, Smith joined the Red Cross to help the residents of Northern New York and build his resume. Smith will leave the Red Cross in the fall for Utica College, where he has been accepted into the nursing program.

Angela Blair, the Volunteer of the Month for March, has been a Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteer for the chapter for one year. As a member of the DAT team, Blair responds to disasters such as house fires and provides assistance and comfort to people displaced from their homes. Blair also provides much-needed assistance with clerical support in the Red Cross’ Potsdam office.

Dunkin’ Donuts has generously supplied nine Red Cross chapters and offices throughout Central and Northern New York with gift cards to distribute monthly to deserving volunteers. Roberts, Smith and Blair each received a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for their dedicated volunteer service.
