The American Red Cross Kansas Capital Area Chapter has received a $10,000 corporate gift from Payless ShoeSource to support ongoing disaster relief efforts in Oklahoma.
A check presentation will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, at the Red Cross office, 1221 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604.
“The Red Cross is on the ground in Oklahoma helping people begin their path to recovery,” said Jo Ann Long, Development Director for the American Red Cross Kansas Capital Area Chapter. “Thanks to the generous supporters like Payless ShoeSource, we have been able to provide food, shelter, relief supplies and comfort to those impacted by this devastating tornado.”
The $10,000 donation from Payless ShoeSource is part of the organization’s ongoing philanthropic leadership.
Since the tornado, Red Cross has:
• Deployed more than 1,100 Red Cross disaster workers and 45 emergency response vehicles
• Served nearly 306,000 meals and snacks
• Distributed more than 70,000 relief items
• Provided nearly 14,500 health services and mental health contacts
The Red Cross is also responding to flooding in Alaska and Missouri, and Wednesday’s tragic building collapse in Philadelphia.
“This tornado was a massive storm, and Red Cross will be providing people with help for weeks to come,” Long said. “We are honored to be the stewards of these donated dollars, and Red Cross will ensure Payless ShoeSource donations empower the affected to rebuild their lives.”
