Phone Cards Help Keep Military in Touch with Loved Ones

A Call to the Red Cross Brings Military Families Together Amid Crisis
Give Something That Means Something This Holiday Season

This year during the holidays, why not give something that means something? You can do this by supporting the work of the American Red Cross.

One way to take part is to shop the 2012 Red Cross Holiday Giving Catalog. Folks can purchase a variety of symbolic gifts featured in the catalog. Purchases come with greeting cards you can send to a friend or loved one, letting them know a donation has been made to the Red Cross in their name.

SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY So many members of the U.S. military will be away from their loved ones during the holidays. Many are away from home for months at a time. One of the gifts in the catalog is a phone card, which helps service members keep in touch with those back at home. Catalog shoppers can give deployed service members the gift of staying in touch with family and friends with the donation of a phone card for as little as $20.

Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) provides important support to members of the military, including 24-hour, seven-days-a-week communications to keep military personnel in touch with their families should an emergency occur.

SAF workers also provide members of the Armed Forces with other support, including financial assistance, counseling and support for our veterans. Another facet of the Red Cross SAF mission is to care for ill and wounded service members and veterans. SAF volunteers are present at most military medical facilities, offering the patients DVDs, snacks, interactive game systems, clothes, personal items and books.

About our Holiday Partners

During this holiday season, the American Red Cross is grateful for the support of our corporate partners that generously contribute to our Holiday Giving Campaign. They include: University of Phoenix, Circle K West Coast Division, and the Community Safety Foundation, funded by AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah Insurance Exchange. Thanks to the generosity of these and other sponsors, the Red Cross is able to carry out its mission of helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies everyday here and around the world. Each holiday season the Red Cross gives everyone the chance to support our work by giving blood, signing a card for military heroes or buying a gift through our holiday catalog.
