Portraits of Hope and Compassion

portraits of hope

Anywhere between five and 25 times a day across New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley, American Red Cross disaster responders answer the call to assist their neighbors who have lost everything to local disasters large and small. Following each fire, flood, building collapse, hurricane, major snow storm and other emergency; a selfless team (comprised mostly of volunteers) is there to help those affected cope and recover.

Late last year, veteran freelance photographer Jason Florio embarked on a pro-bono collaboration with the Greater NY Red Cross in order to document these personal stories of hope and compassion. The two photo/video collections can be viewed by clicking here—those that help and those that are helped.
