American Red Cross workers are on the scene tonight of an apartment fire on the 2000 block of Military Place in Odenton that could result in as many as 23 families being displaced. Currently Red Cross workers are interviewing the affected residents to determine their needs but typically assist by providing emergency shelter, replacement clothing, food and emotional counseling. Red Cross workers will continue to follow up with everyone involved until all of their immediate needs have been met. If you were affected by this disaster and need help, call the American Red Cross at 410/624-2040.
The Red Cross urgently needs more volunteers to help with disasters just like this one. To learn more about opportunities with the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team contact Leslie Fries at 410/624-2051.
More than twice a day the American Red Cross of the Chesapeake Region provides basic needs to Maryland families after disasters such as emergency shelter, food, clothing and counseling thanks to major support from donors to the United Way campaigns in Maryland. Each day the Red Cross also provides lifesaving blood to area hospitals; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
