Red Cross Celebrates July 4th Collecting Items for Armed Forces

Red Cross Northwest Ohio 4th of July Armed Forces
At the Red Cross, we greatly appreciate the loyalty, dedication, and commitment of our troops.

The American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio will be collecting food and hygiene items for service members deployed in Afghanistan on Friday, July 4th, 2014 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Comfort items will be collected and sent to troops serving their country and stationed abroad. People are encouraged to celebrate the July 4th holiday by supporting members of the military and donating requested items. Volunteers will be available between the hours of noon and 8:00 p.m. at the corner of Adams and Summit St. in downtown Toledo to receive donation items the day of the event.

“At the Red Cross, we greatly appreciate the loyalty, dedication, and commitment of our troops. We want to do our part to respect their sacrifices and support them however we can,” said Tim Yenrick, regional CEO of American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio.

Requested Items Include:

  • Beef / turkey jerky (no pork)
  • Body wash / conditioner / shampoo
  • Chips / nuts / pretzels / sunflower seeds**
  • Coffee (ground; bags or cans)
  • Crackers / cheese spreads**
  • Creamer / sugar / sweetener**
  • Dental floos / mouth wash
  • Deodorant
  • Granola / Nutra-Grain bars
  • Gum
  • K-cups (apple cider, coffee, hot chocolate, tea)
  • Lysol wipes
  • Phone cards
  • Shaving cream
  • Shower shoes (adults sizes only)
  • Stir sticks
  • Sweet snacks (cookies / Rice Krispie Treats)**
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss
  • ** Individual, snack, or travel-size packages ONLY please!

    The collection will continue throughout the month of July at the American Red Cross of Northwest Ohio office located at 3100 W. Central, Toledo, OH, 43606. Other offices throughout the Northwest Ohio Region are collecting for Kuwait and Djibouti as well. People are encouraged to contact their local Red Cross office to determine the needs and collection times for their designated deployment location.

    The Red Cross has an unwavering commitment to members of the U.S. military, its veterans and their families. Beginning when Clara Barton first recruited nurses to support the U.S. Army, the Red Cross continues to meet the needs of a changing military and expand services to veterans.
