Red Cross Responds to Tornadoes in Mississippi With Food and Relief Supplies Wednesday, February 3, 2016 — The American Red Cross Mississippi Region is helping people affected by the massive storm system that destroyed neighborhoods and left residents without power last night. Within hours of the tornado touching down, Red Cross workers were on the ground focusing on emergency needs. Emergency vehicles continue to travel through communities in Lauderdale County, Newton County and Neshoba County to deliver supplies such as food and clean up supplies to individuals and families picking up the pieces of their homes. If someone needs assistance, they can contact the Meridian Red Cross office at 601-485-5151 between 8am-5pm or 1-800-REDCROSS. “We will continue to have a presence in the affected communities. Our workers will be reaching out to all those we know have been affected by last night’s storms and we will provide assistance, counseling, information and resources based on their needs,” said Mississippi Red Cross CEO Ivy Williams. Red Cross mobilizes the power of its volunteer workforce to be on the ground when disaster strikes. Those interested in becoming a Red Cross volunteer may visit www.redcross.org/volunteer today.
