Pueblo, CO — The American Red Cross of Southeastern Colorado will spend the weekend of June 6 and 7 training members of the community to have skills that will help the community when disasters strike.
The Pueblo Disaster Training Academy is an all-in-one training opportunity for new and veteran volunteers. If you are not a Red Cross volunteer you can still attend. Volunteer applications will be taken at the academy. “Now is the time to get involved!” said Sally Broomfield, disaster program manager for the Red Cross Southeastern Colorado Chapter. “Becoming a Red Cross volunteer can change your life, in a good way.”

The two-day Disaster Academy will be held at Pueblo Community College Student Center in Pueblo, Colo. You do not have to be a registered Red Cross volunteer to attend. If you have ever wanted to get involved in any of the following activities, now is your chance:
• Shelter people affected by disaster(shelter staff and licensed health staff)
• Interacting with the media in a disaster (spokespersons, photographers, writers)
• Helping a family recover from a home fire
• Managing and Leading volunteers
• Teaching disaster preparedness to adults and children
• Use your career skills to help before, during and after a disaster
Although prior experience is not required for all positions, the Red Cross is seeking licensed health and mental health volunteers as well as volunteers with experience in public relations and communications.
