Community members from Northern Colorado will spend the weekend of March 20-22 training with the American Red Cross to be there for their neighbors when disasters large and small strike in our communities.
“Have you wanted to help during a disaster, but were not sure how? Now is the time to get involved!” said Phyllis Dunn, a local Disaster Action Team Lead.
The annual Northern Colorado Training Academy is the primary all-in-one training opportunity for new and veteran volunteers. Volunteers from all over Colorado and Wyoming will come together in Loveland for the third weekend in March to ensure that we have the resources in our communities to help when disaster strikes.
“Disasters like tornadoes, wildfires, floods and devastating home fires are all-powerful reminders of how vital it is that we have a strong, well-trained volunteer workforce in place in our communities before disaster strikes.” said Erin Mounsey, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Colorado. “Our upcoming Academy is a great chance to get trained in the Red Cross model to be ready to help when our neighbors need us. In one weekend you can learn much of what is needed to be able to; support or work in an evacuation shelter, help respond to a local home fire, and much more!”
The three-day Disaster Academy is being hosted at The Larimer County Ranch in Loveland from Friday, March 20 to Sunday, March 22. The academy provides a range of essential trainings for volunteers to serve with the Red Cross during disasters. If you have ever wanted to get involved in any of the following activities, now is your chance:
· Supporting or running an evacuation shelter (shelter staff and licensed health staff)
· Informing the public during disasters (spokespersons, photographers, writers)
· Responding to local disasters
· Leadership and Supervision
