It's never too early to teach kids about safety and preparedness. It's something they can share with their whole family, and have fun doing it.

The American Red Cross serving Snohomish County, Tulalip Boys and Girls Club and the Tulalip Resort Casino are coming together to put on a Health and Safety Day for members of the Tulalips Boys and Girls Club and their families.

Executive Director Chuck Morrison said, “It's never too early to teach kids about safety and preparedness. It's something they can share with their whole family, and have fun doing it.”

One of the event sponsors is the Tulalip Resort Casino. General Manager Sam Askew said it’s a, “powerful example of multiple community service organizations coming together in support of each other and our kids.”

The goal is to help 150 or more families be better prepared. Children will have the opportunity to learn “hands only” CPR, and receive a pillowcase to make an emergency preparedness kit. “I’m most excited about the Pillowcase Project,” said Askew. “We’ve worked with our vendors to come up with all the supplies needed for each kids ‘pillowcase’ and they can go home that day prepared and ready in the event of an emergency or evacuation.”

The event will also include preparedness information for parents, family screenings by the Tulalip Health Clinic, free pizza donated by a local restaurant and demonstrations by Snohomish County Search and Rescue. The Tulalip Fire Department, Police Department and the Red Cross will be bringing their emergency vehicles for children to get up close to in “Touch a Truck.”
