The American Red Cross Greater New York Legacy Society held its annual luncheon at regional headquarters in Manhattan on Sept. 25. The event recognized long-term donors who have generously included the Red Cross in their estate plans, as well as those who have funded planned gifts.

Attendees heard from Josh Lockwood, regional CEO, and Hugh Williams, Greater New York Red Cross gift planning officer.

“The strength of the Red Cross comes, in part, from long-range thinkers like you who offer significant legacies,” Lockwood said. “Your gifts help ensure that the Red Cross has the financial resources necessary to continue providing lifesaving programs and services to the people of our Region for years to come.”

“Those here today build upon the history of like-minded generous Americans supporting the broad humanitarian efforts of the Red Cross in the U.S. and around the world,” Williams added.

Both speakers discussed the programs and services the Red Cross provides throughout the Greater New York region of New York City, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, and Greenwich, Conn. Lockwood also explained the local response to Hurricane Sandy, and the ongoing recovery work still taking place in the region “for years to come.”

Additionally, attendees toured the building, including the Emergency Communications and Operations Centers and observed a Red Cross emergency response vehicle. During the tour, local disaster response team members explained how the Red Cross pre-positions vehicles and supplies to prepare for the fires, floods and other disasters that befall residents in the Greater New York region each day.
