Fire Safety

Denver, 4 p.m., Thursday, Sep. 17, 2015 – The American Red Cross has moved the shelter that is supporting those affected by the multi-family fire at the Country Club Villas apartment complex. The new location is:

Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church

1500 S. Dayton St.

Denver, CO 80247

The American Red Cross continues to provide support for the people displaced from their homes at the Country Club Villas Apartment complex. The shelter opened in the early morning at the Potter’s House Church, 9495 E. Florida Ave. in Denver. Approximately 77 people registered at the shelter and Red Cross where they received a warm place to stay, comfort and food. Red Cross provided breakfast and lunch to those staying at the shelter and will serve dinner at the new location this evening.

Early this morning the Red Cross mobilized a Disaster Action Team in the early stages of the response, along with a shelter team and feeding team to provide support for the affected residents. A mobile feeding vehicle was activated to provide food support, an emergency response vehicle brought blankets and supplies and another team brought an emergency shelter supply trailer.

Red Cross volunteers continue to support the response effort. Red Cross nurses are at the shelter to support minor medical needs, along with a disaster mental health professional to provide emotional support. "Our teams will continue to work with each of the affected residents," said Jessica Pate, disaster program specialist for the Red Cross. "We will talk with each one to determine what support the Red Cross can provide."

More information about the status of the shelter, feeding, and plans for continued services for those who are not able to return to their homes will be released when it is available.
