Red Cross Opening Shelter at North Tonawanda High School

Thousands without power following storms

The American Red Cross, Serving Erie & Niagara Counties is in the process of opening a shelter at North Tonawanda High School, 405 Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda after thousands of residents have been left without power following overnight storms. Volunteers from the Disaster Workforce have been mobilized to set up and staff the shelter, which is expected to be open at approximately 10:30am. Volunteers also responded to two separate storm related incidents overnight, assisting a family of five after a tree fell into their Austin Street home in Buffalo, starting a fire, and assisting an elderly man after his trailer home was destroyed by fire in Lackawanna. Anyone wishing to help people affected by floods, fires and other disasters is asked to make a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund by calling 1-800-REDCROSS, visiting or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to charge a $10 donation to their cell phone bill.
