Red Cross Responds to Summit Fire

Volunteers supporting evacuation center in Banning

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The American Red Cross is assisting with Banning fire relief efforts. In addition to initially supplying food and water for evacuees, Red Cross volunteers are now running an evacuation center earlier opened by the City of Banning.

The evacuation center is located at:

Banning Community Center - 789 N. San Gorgonio, Banning, CA 92220

(located near the intersection of Wilson Street)

The organization remains in close contact with local officials and is on standby to provide additional assistance as needed.

“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by today’s fire,” said Maxine Margaritis, regional CEO for the American Red Cross serving Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

That sentiment is echoed throughout the organization.

“We encourage evacuees to come to the Banning Community Center for food, information or even a shoulder to lean on,” added Lois Beckman, CEO of the American Red Cross of Riverside County.

In addition, the Red Cross is also reminding all Southern Californians to be prepared for wildfires in their communities.

Wildfire preparedness information is available at or by downloading a free mobile app via iTunes or the Google Play store. The app, called Wildfire by American Red Cross, provides preparedness tips, wildfire alerts and emergency features such as an audible alarm and emergency flashlight.
