The American Red Cross Adirondack-Saratoga Chapter is responding to a 30+ unit apartment electrical fire at a senior care facility on Catherine Drive in Halfmooon, N.Y. (Saratoga County), which took place early this morning.
Currently, the Red Cross has a reception center open for those affected by the fire. There are approximately 51 adults displaced by the fire. Red Cross Disaster Action Team Members are working with the facility's management team and local fire department to assess the needs of the tenants. The Red Cross will be providing lunch for the local responders, and the residents and staff of the apartment complex this afternoon.
Due to the nature of the electrical fire, it is estimated that it may be a week before power is completely restored at the facility. Once the needs of the tenants have been properly determined, the Red Cross will work with local agencies to provide accommodations for lodging and any other needs, until the damage is fixed and power is restored. Updates will be provided as details are confirmed.
The American Red Cross is dedicated to assisting those affected by disasters. Trained Red Cross volunteers and staff are on call 24 hours a days, seven days a week - and are ready to assist when needed with disaster assessment, client casework, sheltering, mass care, feeding, and more.
The Red Cross's ability to respond is made possible solely through the generous donations made by the public. To assist those affected by disasters, visit redcross.org/ny/albany to volunteer and/or donate to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
