Your local Red Cross knows it’s important to recognize people whose commitment and courage make a difference. That’s why we would like to honor those who stand out in a crowd and embody the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.
The American Red Cross is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Heartland Heroes awards dinner until August 2, 2013. Nominees should live in Champaign, Douglas, Piatt or Vermilion county or the heroic event should have occurred in Champaign, Douglas, Piatt or Vermilion.
Award categories include:
Young Courage: A youth under the age of 18 who has shown exceptional bravery, strength or courage.
Everyday Hero: A person who acts/acted heroically without thought, personal agenda and/or regard for his/her own safety.
Valor: A healthcare, military or public safety professional who has gone above and beyond to answer the call to service.
Citizenship: An individual who displays leadership and commitment to our community.
Senior Hero: A person(s) age 62 or above who has offered self in a heroic fashion in a time of crisis or has committed self in some significant, unexpected or unusual manner for the good of others.
In Memoriam: An individual who left an extraordinary legacy by sacrificing his/her life through a heroic or selfless act, or by demonstrating visionary humanitarian leadership, inspiring others to greater selflessness and service.
HOW TO NOMINATE: Visit arcillinois.org/champaignheroes and fill out a nomination form online, or call (217) 351-5861 to request a printed form. Nominations are due by August 2, 2013.
ABOUT THE HEARTLAND HEROES DINNER: The 2013 Heartland Heroes Dinner will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Levis Center, University of Illinois. The Heartland Heroes Dinner is the primary annual fundraiser for the Champaign office that serves Champaign, Douglas, Piatt and Vermilion counties. Proceeds will benefit local Red Cross services including disaster relief, youth education and community disaster education.
