Red Cross to Hold “USO Show” at Illinois Veterans Home

We look forward to this event every year because it gives us the opportunity to say thank you for our veterans service to our country.

The Illinois Veteran's Home will receive an early Valentine's Day gift from the local Red Cross.

On Saturday, February 9, Red Cross volunteers will give back to local veterans by holding a World War II “USO show” featuring live Valentine themed music from the 30's, 40's and 50's. The show will begin at 2:00pm in Smith Hall. The “Andrew’s Sisters” will also make a special appearance.

"We look forward to this event every year because it gives us the opportunity to say thank you for our veterans service to our country,” said Pam Shaffer, Executive Director. “Thanks to the sacrifice of our veterans, we are able to enjoy the freedoms we have today."

The Red Cross will also present sound equipment to the Illinois Veteran’s Home that was purchased through a military grant. The home will receive eight rechargeable handheld wireless microphone systems including stands, and eight portable PA systems with IPod docks.

“This sound equipment may seem like a small gesture,” continued Shaffer. “But it will enable the local veterans home to continue to provide entertainment and joy to our veterans.

Media outlets are invited to attend the “USO show”. Please contact Kate.Rhoads@redcross.org to coordinate attendance.
