American Red Cross volunteers touch lives everyday. It takes all kinds of people to make this organization work – different, ages, different backgrounds and different skills.
The Illinois Capital Area Chapter will be holding a volunteer orientation at the local office for all interested in becoming a volunteer. There is no commitment necessary for attending this orientation.
The Red Cross is looking for people with various backgrounds, talents and skill levels to volunteer in Christian, Logan, Macoupin, Menard, Montgomery, Sangamon and Shelby counties. Local staff work with new volunteers to find roles that best suit each person’s skills and interests.
These include responding to disasters; assisting local military members, their families, and veterans; staffing first aid stations; teaching lifesaving skills and disaster training courses; delivering meals to community members through our Meals on Wheels program; educating the community on disaster and emergency preparation; general office duties; public affairs; and assisting with special events and fundraisers.
Following the orientation, a “Disaster Services: An Overview” class will take place. This free course explains how the American Red Cross responds to disasters and the role of its volunteers during such times. Anyone is welcome regardless of age or experience.
