For the first time, the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Red Cross will be a site for free tax preparation through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program. Beginning in January 2013, Tri-State area residents, who qualify for the EITC program, will be able to meet with a certified tax prep volunteer at the Red Cross Headquarters in Evanston (2111 Dana Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45207). The Headquarters will be open from 4 to 7pm on Wednesday’s and 9 to 1pm on Saturdays for several weeks during January and February. No appointment is required, but clients must bring identification, social security cards, and all tax documents.

“This program will help bring millions of dollars to low and moderate income families in our communities. You can help by volunteering a few hours of your time during tax season,” said Paula McIntosh, Chief Community Presence Officer for the Cincinnati Red Cross.
The Earned Income Tax Credit is designed to reduce the tax burden on eligible workers and to supplement their wages. In recent years, filers claiming EITC have received an average credit of over $1,800 on their federal taxes.
Eligibility for EITC is determined based on earnings, filing status and eligible children. For more information on the Earned Income Tax Credit or find out if you qualify for assistance, visit www.makeworkpay.com.
