Boston-area volunteers just finished stacking a donation arranged by the national headquarters of the American Red Cross.

After last month’s blizzard, the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts is stocking up on supplies that could be needed for the next disaster. Among the shipments that came in are:

•2, 400 “heater meals.” These are shelf-stable meals that come with utensils and a mechanism to heat them – even when the power is out.

•1,200 extra-large adult diapers

•1,440 large adult diapers

Among the responsibilities taken on by volunteers are transport – by van or truck – and logistics, or figuring out how to get 2,640 diapers stacked into a warehouse so they can be unloaded quickly and shipped in reasonable quantities to a Red Cross shelter in an emergency.
