Kentuckiana Region Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Keith Alvey recently accepted the position of Division Disaster Executive for the American Red Cross. In Keith’s new role, he will oversee Red Cross disaster services for Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia. He will work with disaster directors throughout the five-state territory to enhance Red Cross disaster services as well as strengthen partnerships with other disaster response agencies to better serve families and individuals affected by disasters.
“I can’t be happier to have been a part of the changes that have taken place to make the Red Cross stronger and better equipped to serve our communities,” Keith said. “I am proud of the work that the volunteers and staff have completed in the last four years and am excited to continue the critical work on a larger scale with disaster services.”
Keith is a native of Kentucky, and became an American Red Cross volunteer as a youth. Upon graduation from High School Keith worked as an EMT before joining the US Coast Guard where he served as a Medic for seven years in the Active and Reserves and received an Honorable Discharge.
Keith graduated from the University of Louisville with a BS in Public Administration. He began his career with the American Red Cross in 1989 in the financial development department and has been with the Red Cross since, serving in various leadership roles with Red Cross National Headquarters as well as the Chapter CEO in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In 2003 Keith returned to Louisville to assume the position of Chief Emergency Services Officer, with oversight of the Disaster Program, Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) and International Social Services. In this position Keith led the development of a chapter call center for emergency SAF messaging that was selected in June 2011 as one of four sites in the world to provide this vital Red Cross service.
In 2009 Keith was selected as the Louisville Regional CEO and has lead the transformation of the “One Red Cross” model across twelve chapters in Southern Indiana and Central and Western Kentucky. He remains active as a National Director for Disaster Relief Operations deploying to operations when needed.
Keith takes on his new role beginning Monday, May 13, 2013. During the search for a new regional CEO, Kentuckiana Region Chief Operating Officer Mark Vogedes will serve as interim CEO.
