Red Cross Responds to Multi-Unit Apartment Fire in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C., Monday, Jan. 20 – The American Red Cross of Central SC responded to an early morning multi-unit apartment fire in Columbia at the Four Season Apartments at 2807 School House Road. The Red Cross provided disaster relief assistance to the seven families who were displaced by the fire. The Red Cross provided the affected families with comfort kits which included personal hygiene items, and funds for lodging along with referrals to local partnering agencies.

Because of trained disaster volunteers and financial assistance from the community, The American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region has assisted more than 2,700 individuals who have been affected by disaster since July 1, 2013. On average, the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross chapters spanning 35-counties of South Carolina.

It takes an average $1,250 for The Red Cross to support a family of four impacted by fire. Currently the Red Cross Central SC Chapter has an ongoing initiative called “Fire Hurts. Red Cross Helps.” aimed at ensuring families impacted by fire have the Red Cross resources available to receive much-needed support. Anyone interested in donating to “Fire Hurts.
