A number of American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) volunteers took part in a Memorial Day Weekend event held at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum May 25 to 27.
Over the three-day weekend, the Greater New York SAF team distributed information on SAF programs and Red Cross services to passersby and members of the armed forces.
The general public was invited to express its thanks to military personnel by writing personal messages on Greater New York Red Cross “Thank You for Serving” postcards.
The postcards will be hand-delivered by the team to service members at local deployment briefings and family-day events, as well as at local VA Hospitals and West Point.
Service to the Armed Forces provides humanitarian support to service members, veterans and their families around the clock and around the globe, all under a trusted symbol. Through this program, the American Red Cross facilitates emergency messages about urgent news from home—a serious illness, the birth of a child or the death of a loved one—to service men and women anywhere in the world, including ships at sea, embassies and isolated military units.
