Students at Trailside Elementary have spent the fall and winter making holiday thank you cards for the first responders of the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) and Anchorage Police Department (APD). Trailside staff worked with the American Red Cross of Alaska to create a way for the children to say thank you to the members of the Anchorage community who work tirelessly throughout the year to keep residents safe.

Each student made a card for either a firefighter or police officer to be presented to the AFD and APD, at APD headquarters and Fire Station 1 on Dec 14th. The student choir will perform some of their winter concert songs at each location as part of their annual choir tour. The concert will include two special songs, especially for the firefighters and police officers. Music Teacher Linda Bender wanted to allow the students to have a chance to thank the firefighters and police in person. “Having the students participate in this project has been a great way to wish the firefighters and police officers a happy holiday season,” says Director of Development & Marketing, Katie Bender. “The staff and students at Trailside have given their heart and soul to thank Anchorage’s first responders. Principal Sami Graham has been very supportive and encouraged all classes to join the project.” The Red Cross was happy to facilitate the link between the students and first responders.

The students will perform at APD Headquarters at 9:30am on December 14th and 10:30am at Fire Station 1. For more information, please contact Katie Bender.
