The WAMC community always bands together at times of crisis

Dr. Alan Chartock and the staff of WAMC Northeast Public Radio took to the airwaves last week to raise money for the victims of Superstorm Sandy - the total amount collected was $240,035.35. This special, one-day fund drive was held on Thursday, November 8, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will go to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

"The WAMC community always bands together at times of crisis," said Chartock, WAMC's President and CEO.

"The American Red Cross is grateful to WAMC and their listeners for their support of the Superstorm Sandy relief effort, said Gary Striar, CEO of the American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region. "It is only through the generosity of donors like this that we are able to provide shelter, food and comfort to thousands who are in need."

Over the years, WAMC has held fund drives, raising an incredible amount of donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief for natural devastation events in our own community, across the country, and worldwide:

* Hurricane Katrina: $484,801

* Hurricane Irene & Tropical Storm Lee: $78, 430

* Tsunami in Japan: $189, 956

WMAC is still receiving phone calls of people who wish to donate to the Red Cross and all calls are being directed to the American Red Cross website and American Red Cross Northeastern New York Regional Office at (518) 458-8111.
