Kenai Peninsula Flooding

Kenai Flooding in Alaska, Response by the American Red Cross
Red Cross Responds with a Shelter and Relief Supplies

American Red Cross of Alaska is assisting four families who have been displaced due to flooding on the Kenai Peninsula. A local Red Cross Disaster Action Team will open a shelter on Monday, November 4 at the National Guard Armory in anticipation of weather conditions rising ground waters forcing more families from their homes. Anchorage-area volunteers are on standby to deploy to the Kenai area should additional resources be needed.

Between 40 and 60 households on the Kenai Peninsula have been affected so far by heavy rainfalls and ground saturation. Red Cross is working closely with the Kenai Peninsula Borough to give the best possible actions ensuring the safety and well-being of Kenai Peninsula residents.

Red Cross will deliver home cleanup kits to the affected area on Saturday to help restore homes for flood victims. Items in a cleanup kit include buckets, brooms, mops, work gloves and other protective gear.

In times of need, the Red Cross is there to help, and cannot do so without the support of generous donors. Please consider making a donation today to help the Red Cross prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small
