Dave Bosteder has announced his retirement after 14 years as chapter executive for the Del Norte County Chapter of the American Red Cross. With his retirement, the Humboldt and Del Norte County Red Cross chapters will consolidate.
Commenting on the departure, Mary Dorman, Del Norte County board member and former board chair, said “Dave has served the community selflessly and with great commitment since 1999. We are sad to see him go but we sincerely thank him for all he has done for Del Norte County and the American Red Cross.”
In addition to leading one of the best small Chapters in the nation, Bosteder received a Red Cross award for excellence in 2011. The national award recognized his leadership in disaster response, training and commitment to community.
With Bosteder’s retirement the Del Norte chapter will be consolidating with the Humboldt County Chapter with primary chapter offices in Eureka. The Red Cross office in Crescent City will remain and services will continue to be provided by dedicated local volunteers and strong support from paid and volunteer staff in Humboldt County. Del Norte board member Dorman noted that “In an era of tight resources, it just makes sense for our two chapters to join forces to help make the North Coast a better and safer place to live.”
Barbara Caldwell, executive director of the Humboldt County Chapter for the past nine years, will serve as the executive director of the consolidated chapter. “Del Norte and Humboldt have long had a strong partnership, and we regularly help each other during times of disaster and with training and preparedness,” said Caldwell. “Staff and volunteers are working on making this a smooth transition in anticipation of the October 5th merger date. We are looking forward to doing great things together as the Humboldt-Del Norte Chapter of the American Red Cross.”
