Television and radio personality Carson Daly (“The Voice,” “Today,” AMP Radio) and chair of the PrepareSantaMonica campaign, joined the chapter to host the Prepare or Beware Halloween Youth Run and Preparedness Fair, which took place on and around the beach in Santa Monica on October 26.
The event was sponsored by True Car, who graciously gave $25,000 to support local preparedness and response efforts. Youth from the Santa Monica School District were invited to run to support the PrepareSantaMonica campaign, an on-going effort to encourage local residents to plan for, survive and recover from a disaster. All participants were encouraged to don Halloween costumes, and fair highlights included building emergency kits, Hands-Only CPR and Pet CPR instruction, Halloween crafts, face painting, as well as a costume contest, judged by Daly, Santa Monica Fire Chief Scott Ferguson and Santa Monica Chamber President Laurel Rosen.
Daly, an avid supporter of the American Red Cross, grew up in Santa Monica, attended Santa Monica schools, and is still involved in the community. This summer, he was announced as chair for the newly launched PrepareSantaMonica campaign, and since then he has volunteered his time and attention to the preparedness initiative.
