Evacuation Center Opened for Santa Clarita Fire Evacuees

SANTA CLARITA, CA (June 24, 2015) - The Red Cross opened an evacuation center at West Ranch High School June 25 in response to the evacuation of more than 1,000 residents forced to flee their homes due to a fast moving brush fire along the 5 Freeway near Calgrove Blvd. Volunteers provided food, water and emotional support to approximately 35 evacuees, including three pets in the adjacent pet shelter. Red Cross also operated a canteen for fire fighters and first responders at the Incident Command Post at Newhall Church of the Nazarene. Residents were allowed back to their homes around 10 p.m.
