More than $19,000 was raised for Red Cross Disaster Relief at the second annual Phenomenex-Red Cross Soccer Charity Cup held in Torrance on June 26, 2015.

The Phenomenex “Phenoms” employee team was determined to take back the Charity Cup trophy from the Red Cross team (the 2014 champions), winning the game 9-1.

However, Red Cross was the real winner, receiving a $10,000 donation from Phenomenex ($1,000 for every goal scored) and an additional $9,500 in matching funds from other members of the L.A. Region Board of Directors, with a total of $19,500 going to Red Cross disaster relief and preparedness.  Phenomenex CEO Fasha Mahjoor, a Red Cross Los Angeles Region board member, has long supported the Red Cross through unique fundraising initiatives.

“Hundreds of employees and Red Cross volunteers came out to participate in and support this high-energy event, shining a light on the incredibly important mission of the American Red Cross,” said Mahjoor.

Other board members who donated $9,500 in matching funds for the event include Steve Atlee, Ron Dresher, Tomoko Nagashima, Rod Hagenbuch, Cheryl Moersen, Kullen Birkeland, Diane Thompson, Tom Tierney, Barbara Matthews and Laura Kim.

"All of us at the Red Cross are so delighted with Phenomenex’s creative, out-of-the-box fundraising activities – including this annual Phenomenex-Red Cross soccer game," said Jarrett Barrios, CEO, Red Cross Los Angeles Region.
