SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF.— The American Red Cross is launching its first-ever Giving Day on June 2, 2015. As part of the campaign, the Red Cross Serving San Bernardino County is asking residents to make a donation to help ensure that local help is available wherever and whenever people need it.
“Life can change in an instant, sometimes leaving people with nothing – without a home, without their belongings, without hope,” said Yevette Ramos, chapter executive director at the American Red Cross Serving San Bernardino County. “For so many, the Red Cross is the answer.”
Red Cross Giving Day is a 24-hour national fundraising campaign supporting the daily work of the Red Cross in communities across the country. The theme of Giving Day is “All in One Day” because the Red Cross is “all in” every day, helping people get back on their feet after disasters.
“On June 2nd, we have 24 hours to turn compassion into action,” said Ramos. “On this one day, we encourage everyone to support the Red Cross so we can be there to help our neighbors during their greatest time of need.”
Each day in communities across the country, the Red Cross comforts disaster victims, supplies blood and platelets to patients in need, supports members of the military, and teaches people lifesaving skills. Last year, the Red Cross Serving San Bernardino County:
• Responded to over 165 local emergencies.
• Assisted 3,147 military members, veterans and their families.
• Trained more than 16,075 people in lifesaving skills such as First Aid and CPR, making our neighborhoods safer for everyone who lives here.
Supporting Red Cross Giving Day is a promise of being able to provide immediate help and hope for those in our community affected by disasters and emergencies.
