Approximately 10 million people across 40 provinces have been affected, with as many as 4 million people displaced.

The Philippines, a nation of more than 7,000 islands, faces enormous devastation in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan that produced record strength winds along with high storm surges this past November. Approximately 10 million people across 40 provinces have been affected, with as many as 4 million people displaced. Aside from displacement, the internet and power are down, making it difficult, and sometimes impossible, for family members to communicate and know each other’s well being.

Generous local donors committed to helping the Red Cross in their relief efforts, including Mai Dang and Hong Nguyen, owners of Escape Nails and Day Spa in Soquel, Beauty Nails in Capitola, and New Escape Day Spa in Santa Cruz. They presented the American Red Cross Santa Cruz County Chapter with a check for $10,000 toward Typhoon Haiyan Relief efforts in the Philippines.
