Region maintains readiness to assist California Wildfires relief

Red Cross disaster responder at wildfire response.
Preparing in advance remains the best response action.

The Red Cross continues to coordinate with emergency officials to provide disaster relief where needed as the California Wildfires continue to blaze. Shelter populations fluctuate throughout the day due to air quality. The Capital Region has reported significant risk to 3,000 homes impacting 20,000 people should a section of the fire line give way. The Humboldt Chapter remains on call to open a shelter for potential evacuees (up to 200 individuals) coming from the Corral Complex and Butler fires in Trinity County. The Corral Complex is now 17% contained.

We have arrangements with three possible shelter sites in Humboldt. Supplies are available and volunteers are standing by to staff it.

While the number of acres consumed by wildfires is sobering, to those affected, it is often only a single burned acre that matters. In response, the American Red Cross provides much needed relief including water and food for first responders battling the blaze, as well as shelter and supplies for those who have been displaced by the wildfires. Preparing in advance remains the best response action. Our ability to stand ready to respond is dependent upon generous donations from the public. Donors are being encouraged to donate to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help people affected by disasters like wildfires, hurricanes, floods or countless crises across the country. Donations not only supports the costs associated with a disaster response, like food or the deployment of volunteers, but also supports our year-round readiness and maintenance costs such as our vehicle fleet, warehouses, IT systems and volunteer training.
