Red Cross Announces Business Preparedness Academy

Mile High Businesss Preparedness Academy
Businesses need to be prepared not only for their own survival, but for the recovery and well-being of the communities in which they’re based.

The American Red Cross is offering a Business Preparedness Academy on Sept. 18 in Black Hawk, Colo.

The Academy – the first of its kind in Colorado – aims to provide large and small businesses, health care organizations, non-profits and faith-based organizations with tools and training to prepare for disasters or emergencies. Participants will also receive guidance on responding to and recovering from disasters.

Up to 40 percent of small businesses fail to reopen after a natural or manmade disaster, and 94 percent of small business owners believe a disaster could seriously disrupt their business within the next two years.

“Businesses need to be prepared not only for their own survival, but for the recovery and well-being of the communities in which they’re based. If your business can’t recover from a disaster, it can’t contribute the jobs, services, goods and tax revenues so vital to the greater community’s ability to recover,” said Troy Staples, business preparedness manager for the Red Cross Mile High Region.
