Red Cross Helping 11 People After Thursday Fire in Hartford

The Red Cross is helping with emergency needs for housing, food, clothing and baby items.

HARTFORD, CONN., OCTOBER 24, 2013 – The American Red Cross is helping 11 people – seven adults and four children – in two families after an early morning fire in Hartford on Edgewood Street. Three Red Cross volunteers met with displaced families to determine their needs.

The Red Cross provided help emergency housing, food, clothing and baby needs to a  family of six adults and four children. The children received stuffed toys.

An adult in a second unit was provided help with emergency housing, food and clothing needs.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items a family might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. 

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of volunteers.
