The evening of August 5, the American Red Cross responded to a two-alarm fire on Lunney Court in Spring Valley, N.Y. The fire began in late afternoon and displaced 12 families from their apartments.
Metro NY North Red Cross disaster responders organized a reception center at the Spring Valley Police Department to give residents a safe place to stay while their needs were assessed. There, the Red Cross provided 15 adults and six children with food, water, emotional support, health services, case management, emergency funds for food and clothing, and comfort kits with personal hygiene items.
Temporary housing was also provided for 16 residents displaced by the blaze.
All operations were conducted in collaboration with Red Cross response partners, including the Office of Emergency Management and the Spring Valley Police Department.
