The American Red Cross of Northeastern New York will host its annual Real Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 90 State Events in Albany. At the breakfast, the Red Cross will recognize seven individuals whose extraordinary actions and service to others have made them Real Heroes in our community.
The Red Cross is pleased to announce the following 2015 Real Heroes Award recipients:
• James Marco of Saratoga Springs – Life Saving Hero
• Rachel Maitino of Schenectady – Youth Good Samaritan
• Barry Feinman of Albany – Military Hero
• Thomas Bielawski of Schoharie – Blood Donor Hero
• Wilma Schmeler of Nassau – Blood Donor Hero

“This year’s Real Heroes have done some truly inspiring things in our community,” said Gary Striar, CEO, American Red Cross of Northeastern New York. “From achievements like opening the first Veteran’s Miracle Center in the country to starting a statewide, all-volunteer disaster relief unit, each hero has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving others. Some have even saved lives in the process. We are honored to be able to tell their stories and celebrate their impact at our Real Heroes Breakfast.”
The Real Heroes Breakfast was born of the American Red Cross’ proud tradition of empowering ordinary people to do extraordinary things. The 2015 Real Heroes award recipients will be celebrated for the ways in which they embody this tradition. The morning will feature breakfast by Mazzone Hospitality, live entertainment from the Electric City Chorus, and each hero’s inspirational story, in addition to the presentation of the 2015 Real Heroes awards. Jaime Roberts of 98.3 TRY and Benita Zahn of NewsChannel 13 will serve as co-emcees.
In addition to media partners 98.3 TRY and WNYT NewsChannel 13, the 2015 Real Heroes Breakfast is sponsored by Lia Auto Group, M&T Bank, MVP Health Care, NBT Bank, CapitalCare Medical Group, LLC, the Clore-Kelly Group, and Fenimore Asset Management & FAM Funds.
All proceeds from the 2015 Real Heroes Breakfast will support the life-saving mission of the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York. To learn more and to purchase tickets, please visit www.redcross.org/NENYheroes.
