The American Red Cross of Broward County is pleased to announce that Paula Prendergast has been selected as the new Executive Director. In this role she will lead a team of over 500 volunteers as they support over 1.8 million Broward residents to prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural and man-made disasters.
“After a national search Paula was selected for this position based on her experience, community knowledge and her passion for the mission of the American Red Cross,” said Chuck Laetsch, Board Chair, American Red Cross of Broward County.
Prendergast has a long record of community service and commitment to Broward County. Prior to joining the American Red Cross, Prendergast served as the South & Southeast Area Director for the American Lung Association in Florida for more than 12 years and in 2013 was the Executive Director of the Florida Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Most recently Prendergast was the Director of Engagement for Broward Health Complete Program.
“The American Red Cross plays a critical role in our community each and every day,” said Prendergast. “Whether we are helping a family in the immediate aftermath of a fire or working with community partners to prepare for major disasters like floods or hurricanes the Red Cross is the one agency that everyone in the community looks to for leadership and I am proud to be part of the team,” said Prendergast.
