Evacuation Centers Begin to Close on the Big Island

Residents can contact the Hawaii County Red Cross Office for assistance.

At the request of the Hawaii County Civil Defense, Hawaii Red Cross volunteers are closing 8 evacuation centers on Friday on the Big Island.  The following evacuation centers are closing on Friday: 

  • Laupahoehoe School
  • Kohala High & Elementary
  • Konawaena High (pet friendly)
  • Hilo High (pet friendly)
  • Waiakea High (pet friendly)
  • Pahoa High & Intermediate (pet friendly)
  • Honokaa High & Intermediate (pet friendly)
  • Waikoloa Elementary

 

The following evacuation centers will remain open until further notice to support individuals impacted by the storm:

  • Kealakehe High (pet friendly)
  • Keaau High (pet friendly)
  • Kau High (pet friendly)

 

The Red Cross advises that residents continue to listen to local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for updates on the situation and to stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding.  For more information on what to do after returning home go to www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/hurricane or www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/flood.
