At the request of the Hawaii County Civil Defense, Hawaii Red Cross volunteers are closing 8 evacuation centers on Friday on the Big Island. The following evacuation centers are closing on Friday:
- Laupahoehoe School
- Kohala High & Elementary
- Konawaena High (pet friendly)
- Hilo High (pet friendly)
- Waiakea High (pet friendly)
- Pahoa High & Intermediate (pet friendly)
- Honokaa High & Intermediate (pet friendly)
- Waikoloa Elementary
The following evacuation centers will remain open until further notice to support individuals impacted by the storm:
- Kealakehe High (pet friendly)
- Keaau High (pet friendly)
- Kau High (pet friendly)
The Red Cross advises that residents continue to listen to local news or a NOAA Weather Radio for updates on the situation and to stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding.
