The American Red Cross announces a generous donation of $25,000 from the John Deere Foundation in support of Red Cross disaster relief. This gift is in addition to the John Deere Foundation’s Annual Disaster Giving Program gift.

Especially hard hit was Rock Valley, Iowa, one of John Deere’s home communities, where hundreds were evacuated when strong storms dumped several inches of rain in a few hours causing dangerous flooding. The Red Cross responded immediately in Rock Valley and Rock Rapids, supporting community efforts to shelter and feed families fleeing their homes. On Monday, June 16, over 100 people were in shelters in Lyon and Sioux counties. Red Cross volunteers handed out more than 20,000 meals and snacks to those affected by flooding and to over 500 community volunteers helping with sandbagging efforts.

The Red Cross will continue to support community efforts as families return to their homes to begin to clean up efforts. The Red Cross will work with the local community to help build a plan as the community undertakes the recovery process.

The American Red Cross is able to respond immediately in communities like Rock Valley because of the support of organizations such as the John Deere Foundation.
