Regardless of age, we all want to remain living in our own homes for as long as possible. One important aspect to living independently is the ability to drive. When older adults are unable to drive and do not have alternate transportation options available, it can have a dramatic impact on their sense of independence and routines of daily life.
Utilizing volunteer drivers, the local Red Cross Transportation Service takes Fulton county seniors to and from medical appointments. For 39 years, these drivers have gone the extra mile to provide personal "home-to-appointment-to-home" service, whether it's to a doctor's appointment, grocery shopping, radiation treatment or hair appointments.
The Red Cross is currently seeking volunteer drivers to ensure this vital service is available for the next 39 years. The program operates from 8:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Friday.
Anyone interested in giving back to the community as a Red Cross volunteer driver, even if it is only a few hours a week, should contact Stephanie.Rhodes@redcross.org or call 647-2040.
