The American Red Cross is such an important presence in our communities, and a cause that our employees have taken great pride in rallying around.

The American Red Cross is pleased to share the results of NIPSCO’s 2013 Charity of Choice campaign: NIPSCO employees gave 193 volunteer hours, 389 pints of blood and $100,000 to help the American Red Cross serve Hoosiers in need.

“First, the American Red Cross was honored to be chosen as NIPSCO’s 2013 Charity of Choice. Then we were blown away by the investment of the entire organization in this campaign. They truly took the Red Cross mission ‘to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies’ to heart through their generous contributions of time, blood and money,” said Regional Red Cross CEO John Lyter.

“The American Red Cross is such an important presence in our communities, and a cause that our employees have taken great pride in rallying around,” said Eddie Melton, manager of corporate citizenship & employee involvement for NIPSCO. “We are glad that our efforts will make an impact in the local chapters across the 32 counties that we serve.”

NIPSCO involved their employees, their families and their customers in the campaign. Activities included:

  • Encouraging employee volunteering at Red Cross chapters for the United Way Day of Caring;
  • Targeted recruiting of employee blood donors;
  • Sponsoring of a Hometown Heroes event that recognized Red Cross volunteers and other community responders
