Red Cross Evacuation Shelters Opened In Response to Sand Fire

Red Cross Los Angeles - Sand Fire
Red Cross volunteers stand ready to serve those in need as fire continues

American Red Cross workers continue to keep evacuation shelters open in response to the Sand Fire that has devastated areas in the Santa Clarita vicinity. The three shelters that are open:

- Hart High School, 24825 N. Newhall Ave., Santa Clarita, CA 91321

- Lake View Terrace Recreation Center, 11075 Foothill Dr., Sylmar, CA 91342

- Highland High School, 39055 25th St. West, Palmdale, CA 93551

The Golden Valley High School shelter has closed to accommodate the growing space need of the Incident Command Center that shared the same location. As the fire response expanded, the Command Center operation increased its on-sitte resources, such as response vehicles. Red Cross opted to relocate the shelter, as sharing locations was no longer a viable option. All shelter materials and staff have been reassigned to the Hart High School, where Red Cross volunteers are currently serving evacuated residents by providing food, drinks, a safe place to stay, information and health services.
